Privacy Policy

Civilyst Academy ("the app", "we", "us") is a learning platform for Odisha Civil Services (OCS) and Civil Services exam aspirants, providing access to study material (PDF notes, practice questions, previous papers) organized by course, module, and topic. This policy explains what information the app collects, why, and how it's used.

Information We Collect

Data	Why we collect it
Name, email address, phone number (phone is optional)	Account creation and sign-in, to identify you within the app, and so we can contact you about your account or access requests.
Password	Stored securely by Firebase Authentication (Google) — we never see or store your password ourselves.
Device information (device model, a device identifier generated by the app) and app activity signals such as whether developer options/USB debugging appear to be enabled	To enforce a per-account device limit (so a single paid account can't be shared across an unlimited number of devices) and as a security/anti-piracy signal for paid study material.
Reading progress (which pages of which documents you've viewed, and when)	So the app can resume you where you left off, and so course progress can be shown to you and to the admin.
Course access and purchase-request records (which courses you've requested or been granted access to, and when)	To manage paid-course access. Payment itself happens outside the app (e.g. UPI) — the app never collects or stores payment card, bank, or UPI credentials. An admin manually reviews and approves access after payment is made directly between you and the academy.
Push notification delivery (via a shared topic, not a per-person identifier)	To deliver announcements from the academy (e.g. new material, updates) to your device.

What We Don't Do

We never make PDF study material downloadable, shareable, or exportable outside the app.
We don't sell or rent your personal information to third parties.
We don't collect payment card, UPI, or bank credentials — payment happens directly between you and the academy outside the app.
The app is not directed at children; it's built for adult competitive-exam aspirants, and we don't knowingly collect data from children.

Third-Party Services

The app is built on Google Firebase, which provides:

Firebase Authentication — account sign-in
Cloud Firestore — storing your profile, progress, and access records
Cloud Storage — storing study material files
Cloud Functions — server-side logic (e.g. serving PDF pages, checking access)
Firebase Cloud Messaging — push notifications

These are operated by Google. See Google's Privacy Policy for how Google handles data on Firebase's infrastructure.

Data Retention & Deletion

We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. If you'd like your account and associated data deleted, contact us at the email below and we'll process the request.

Security

We take reasonable technical measures to protect your data and the study material in the app, including access controls on paid content, per-student watermarking of documents, and restrictions on screenshots/screen recording where the device supports it. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, but we work to protect your information using industry-standard practices.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date above.
